Happy Thursday everyone! Now that we have settled into the routine of classes and have gotten used to being back in the studio it’s time to take our training to the next level. While we work on our technique, it is also so important to find our individuality and ways to stand out in a crowd of amazing dancers.Here’s our tips on “being you” in class!
Give it your all.
It’s always a beautiful thing to watch someone give their all to something. Class is a place to explore, to grow and a safe space to stumble. When you are given a task in class, give it a hundred percent, take chances and try not to think about the end results. Giving your all in class will make your instructors eager to engage with you, your teammates impressed by your work ethic and allow you to grow at a rate you never imagined.
Stop comparisons.
When we see an amazing dancer online or in our studios we can go down the dangerous path of comparison. Spending your energy on comparing yourself to these dancers is simply a waste of time. We are all individuals, with individual talents and unique voices. No one can dance the way you dance. Stay focused on your journey and your training. Celebrate what is special about you and there is no way you won’t stand out in the crowd.
Treat every class as a performance.
Every dance comes alive under the stage lights and in front of an audience. However, we are cutting ourselves short if we wait to give our best performance on stage. Give every dance class the attention, the energy and the enthusiasm that you give an onstage performance and your dancing will change dramatically.
Try it all.
When it comes to being an outstanding dancer, versatility plays a major role. Keep an open mind to trying new styles, taking classes with new instructors and taking on new opportunities. Even if you find a style or two that really speaks to you, cross training and studying a variety of styles can only benefit your technique and style.
