Responsibility in the studio

Happy Wednesday everyone! We are well into our fall session. We are so proud of the work all of our students are putting into their classes and training this year. At IHD we not only want to teach dance, we want to help build the character and self esteem of our dancers. In today’s blog we are going to talk about 5 tips that will instantly make you a more responsible dance student. These tips will ensure you are a teammate and student and help you feel comfortable and ready to take on any class you step into.

  1. Come on time

When it comes to dance class you don’t want to miss a thing. The beginning of class is not only when we prepare our bodies to dance but also when we have a chance to connect with our teacher and teammates. The beginning sets the tone for the rest of the class. Coming on time is a sign of respect for your teacher, your teammates and your training.

  1. Come prepared

Make sure you bring everything you need and do everything you need to do before class. Just like coming on time, coming prepared ensures you don’t miss any part of class. Bring water, bring proper dance attire, use the washroom, and come to class ready to focus and dance.

  1. Review Materials

We all know everything gets better with practice and dance is no exception. Spending time practicing things you are struggling with class or skills you want to achieve will always help you reach your goals quicker. Going over choreography, exercises and ideas that you and your teacher have been working on in class will undoubtedly help you grasp concepts, excel your training and show your teacher and teammates that you are committed to your training.

  1. Be Gracious

Responsibility includes acknowledging how lucky we are to be in the studio. Be thankful when your teacher gives you a correction. Be thankful for the space we have to dance and to be together. Be thankful to your teammate’s who share their energy and passion with you. Always thank your families for supporting your dreams, your teachers for class and anyone else who helps you along the way in your dance journey.

  1. Be a Cheerleader

We rise by lifting each other up. By supporting, encouraging and cheering on the other dancers in your class, you improve the atmosphere you dance in, the quality of the dancing in your class and just simply makes you a better teammate. By giving support we often get support in return, helping us achieve our goals.

We are looking forward to a successful and exciting season of dance and building a team of responsible young people and dancers!
